The Product Development Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the company's product development initiatives are achieved within agreed upon time and budget parameters. Development efforts will consist of both "new" products and systems, in addition to the enhancement of existing product lines. To ensure that development initiatives occur in the proper fashion, the Product Development Engineer will be expected to utilize proven product development processes, improving these processes where appropriate. Since there are no direct reports to this position, the Product Development Engineer must possess superb interpersonal and communication skills and have a demonstrated ability to inspire others to "join the project". A solid engineering knowledge of aluminum storefront, entrance and curtainwall systems combined with a proven ability to successfully manage projects is essential for this position.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities

  • Ensuring that product development initiatives are completed in an On-Time, Complete and Correct manner.
  • Ensuring that product development initiatives are completed within budget.
  • Acting as the chief coordinator between Vendors, Customers, outside Test Labs and internal resources while following the product development process.
  • Responsible for creating and energizing a "development team" for each major product initiative.
  • Assist in the creation of initial product charter, ensuring appropriate return on investment, developing product strategy/context, designing and developing prototypes (includes tooling), administering prototype testing, scheduling and administering plant trial runs and ensuring advertising and promotional literature is ready for launch.
  • Responsible for following documented procedures as well as producing and ensuring product meets or exceeds established product specifications.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering field.
  • Minimum of five years experience in technical design/applications engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding people skills. Able to relate to a wide range of education and background types.
  • Strong customer orientation.
  • A "self starter" requiring minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
