Position Overview

The Clinical Technician II is responsible for performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, interpreting and reporting patient results, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, assisting senior lab staff with advanced laboratory duties, assisting less experienced employees where needed, and complying with all applicable local, state, and federal laboratory requirements. The Clinical Technician II will consistently display excellent execution in all aspects of their work and contribute to projects and discussions in addition to daily laboratory testing.

Shifts available include the following:

  • Tues - Sat 6:00am - 2:30pm shift

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ability to work on high complexity laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses according to the laboratory's standard operating procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Meet high productivity, quality, and TAT expectations.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives.
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic problems that adversely affect test performance.
  • Achieves and maintains competency on required high complexity laboratory tasks.
  • Maintain stringent standards for safety: identifying any issues which might adversely employee safety and communicating these to the appropriate management and EHS representatives.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment and safety requirements.
  • Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Assist with writing and modifying laboratory SOPs in order to maintain a high level of quality in test processes and results.
  • Understand the various laboratory equipment and reagents used within assigned department.
  • Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time.
  • Participate in testing and validation of new high complexity laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Assist with implementing new technology and consumables into department.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies by performing basic preventative maintenance and maintaining quality assurance records.
  • Proficient in using software associated with laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain a clean work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures.
  • Assist with training new technicians.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and colleagues by using appropriate interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for up to 90% of a typical work day. Ability to work standing for approximately 90% of a typical work day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
  • Participate in continuing education and staff meetings. Responsible for own professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined:
    • 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
  • 2+ years of CAP/CLIA clinical laboratory experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Professional working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
    • For degree not in those listed above: 90 semester hours which must include 16 semester hours in chemistry (6 of which must be in inorganic chemistry); 16 semester hours in biology courses and 3 semester hours of math.
  • Appropriate certification from one of the nationally recognized certification agencies; i.e., ASCP or state licensure that has been determined to be equivalent.
  • Experience in molecular testing.
  • Strong grasp of molecular biology and genetics techniques and principles.
  • Experience working with laboratory information systems.

Salary Range:

$45,000.00 - $72,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Marshfield on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually.
