Company Overview

Curative has grown from being housed in a one-room cottage to a comprehensive human services organization offering programs and services at 10 locations to more than 7,000 people a year. It all began May 12, 1919 when the Elizabeth Upham Davis and the Junior League started the Curative Workshop for restoration therapy. The Curative Workshop opened in a cooperative agreement with Columbia Hospital. During the first year of operation, the Curative Workshop provided 240 treatments to 28 pediatric patients.

Services added through the years include occupational therapy, referrals from insurance companies to treat workers who were injured on the job, a children's speech clinic, and a home service department. On April 9, 1931, incorporation papers were filed and the Curative Workshop of Milwaukee became a free-standing non-profit agency. League members continued their support of Curative by serving as board members and as volunteers.

Then came a period in Curative's history referred to as the "Allen Taylor Era." During the 28 years Taylor offered his talent, Curative accomplished the following milestones:
  • Was a founding member of the Medical Center of Southeastern Wisconsin and built its current facility on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus.
  • Negotiated the merger of the Kiwanis Children's Center with Curative.
  • Established the Curative Foundation.
  • Earned distinction as the nation's first outpatient rehabilitation facility to be accredited by the new Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
  • Hired its first physician medical director.
Subsequent years saw additional relationships designed to meet community needs. Curative formed an affiliation with Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, and continued its association with Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin. New and expanded programs included sports injury rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, work injury and prevention services, birth-to-three and senior services. CARF continues to recognize Curative's excellence by awarding multiple-year accreditations.

Today, Curative Rehabilitation Services is one of the oldest, largest, experienced and comprehensive rehabilitation and human services organizations in the nation. Curative provides services for children and adults, in Medical, Vocational and Developmental Disabilities programs at our community sites and affiliated hospitals. Curative also provides services for seniors, transportation services and work experience opportunities.

Curative Care Network is an equal opportunity affirmative action employer committed to creating a culturally diverse workforce to serve the needs of our customers. Ours is a friendly, professional and CARF accredited health care environment. We offer competitive salaries and benefits packages. Curative provides services in a number of locations throughout Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties.
